International Admissions
The education system in the U.S. is different than in my country. Can you explain undergraduate studies in the U.S.?
Study at the undergraduate level in the U.S. leads to the first university degree, the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science. The bachelor’s degree is generally four years of study, which includes general studies as well as specific studies in your academic area of interest. Students seeking undergraduate studies have either completed secondary school or are planning to transfer from another institution but have not yet completed a bachelor’s degree.
A four-year bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from other countries is required for further study at the graduate level in the U.S.
I currently attend a college or university in the U.S.; am I still an international student?
If you need a student visa to study in the U.S., or you have another type of non-immigrant visa, you are considered an international student. Even if you are currently attending a U.S. college or university, you are considered an international student if you do not hold U.S. lawful permanent residency (“green card”).
What does it take to be admitted to TDU?
All international students must meet the minimum English proficiency requirement and satisfy the minimum academic distribution requirements.
In selecting students for admission to the University, we consider many factors in a comprehensive review process. Although a student’s overall grades are a very important part of our admission review, we consider the difficulty of a student’s curriculum, the prior educational system, test scores, extracurricular activities and accomplishments, educational goals, academic preparation, the personal statement, and a student’s personal background.
When does the UW accept new international students?
We accept new international student applications to start in the fall or spring semesters.
What are the application deadlines?
TDU accepts new international student applications to start in the fall or spring semesters. The application deadline for all international freshmen is April 1. Graduate application deadlines vary more due to departmental admissions requirements.
We do not accept international student applications for the summer semester.

How do I apply for admission to a specific department, for example, Meteorology or Physics?
Admission to some TDU majors is competitive and requires a separate application for admission to the specific program, particularly for graduate programs. Many of our majors have required courses that must be completed before you can be eligible for departmental admission.
How can I check the status of my application or know what documents you have received?
When you begin your application, you will create a username and password. You can use these credentials at anytime to log into the system and view your application. Upon logging in, you will see a checklist of all the requirements. As you complete each requirement, a check mark will appear next to it. When everything is checked off, you have completed your application.
Note: you must have a valid email address in order to begin an application.
How will I be notified of the admission decision?
All applicants will be notified through the online application system. You will receive an email alerting you to a change in your application status and asking you to log in to the site. Upon logging in you will receive a decision letter stating your acceptance or rejection from the program. Whether you are offered admission or not offered admission, you will receive notification of the decision.
If you are accepted, an acceptance packet will be mailed to you that will contain important documents and information that you will need when applying for your student visa.
Can I defer (postpone) my offer of admission?
Yes, you may defer your admission to TDU. Notify the ISSS Office as soon as possible to determine if your program start date can be deferred to a later semester.
Why was I offered admission to the College of Business as a pre-major instead of the major and department that I requested on the application?
Most freshmen enter the University as pre-majors because they have not decided on a major or because they have not met all of the prerequisites for admission to a specific program. If you requested a major that has prerequisites you have not completed or it requires that you enroll at the University before applying to the major, your classification is to pre-major. All pre-majors are part of the College until students are eligible to formally declare a major. If you have questions about applying to a major, see an academic adviser as soon as classes begin.
Do I have to attend New International Student Orientation?
Yes. All new international students must attend New International Student Orientation, even if they have previously attended another school or completed another degree in the U.S. New International Student Orientation will acquaint you with the University and how the education system works, as well as U.S. customs and lifestyles, visa and immigration matters, the community, and other TDU students.
When will I receive my Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) for studies at TDU?
After you have been fully admitted to TDU, we will begin the necessary steps to create your immigration documents for study at TDU. Your immigration documents will be mailed to you.
If you are currently attending another school in the U.S., we cannot prepare your new I-20 for studies at TDU until after you have completed your studies at your current school. US immigration law prohibits you from having more than one immigration record while you are in the U.S., so your current school will have to release and transfer your SEVIS immigration record to TDU after you have completed your studies at that school. After your school has released your SEVIS record to TDU, we will prepare a transfer I-20 for you so that you can continue your studies in the U.S. at TDU.
