J-1 Program Extension

J-1 students who do not complete their program of study by the expiration date noted on their Form I-20 or DS-2019 must apply for a program extension before their forms expire. Failure to extend your stay could jeopardize your legal status.
  1. To initiate an DS-2019 Extension, please click the "Request Program Extension" button below.
  2. Send an electronic request your academic advisor, asking them to complete and submit a form that approves your program extension.
  3. Upload proof of your financial support for the duration of your extension (award letter, TDU assistantship letter, bank or investment statement).
PLEASE NOTE: The extension procedure will extend your DS-2019 but not your visa stamp. If you have an expired visa stamp in your passport, you are permitted to remain in the US. with a valid DS-2019. The next time, however, you travel out of the US and need to reenter, you will still need to apply for a new visa stamp at a US Consulate prior to your return to the US.
